Plan your journey...

What is a Mobile Website ?

It's what is trending...

A Mobile Website is one which is especially designed and developed for the mobile phone (or smartphone).

We all know what is a website. And we are also aware of the fact that since a over decade mobile devices especially mobiles and smartphones have penetrated deeply into the life of every person, not only working professionals but also housewives, students everybody. This has bought a see change in how people, the world over, are using their mobile devices for their basic computer needs. The most common use amoong all others is browsing and searching the information of their use. Now here when they try access any website which is basically developed as a standard and normal practise of doing that job, then that website becomes too heavy to download its contents for rendering on the small screen of the mobiles. This leads to longer duration of time before any page opens up properly on mobile phones. This waiting period is deadly... It frustates the website visitor. It may take your visitor aways from your site. You may loose a prospective client. It will tarnish your brand reputation. It gives the impression to the website visitor that the company or person who owns the website is old and so their products and/or services may also not be updated with latest development and technologies of the prevaling time.

Here comes to rescue Mobile Websites. Similar to the normal website that we use to browser with our dektop computer or laptop a Mobile Websites can also have the same contents. But a major differenec between a normal website and a Mobile Website is that the mobile website has a layout that perfectly fits its screen size in such a way that mobile user can easily read the text, see the pictures, etc. without zooming or stretching the screen with pinch.

There are also other differences that if taken into consideration, as far as possible, then any Mobile Website may appear absolutely different from its desktop version. These differences may be in terms of look-n-feel, contents, some less important functionalities can be ignored.

Mobile Websites are different from Responsive Websites that can also be developed in a way that can open up decently on mobiles but Responsive Websites are not exclusively optimised for mobiles. They contain code, contents and functionalities keeping in mind that the website can be access by any of multiple devices - from legacy desktop to latest smartphones and all with multiple & sizes screens - it contains a lot of code, big and high quality images (with small & low quality version also), heavy graphics and functionality etc. This makes the whole of website too large, heavy and much complex compared to websites with Mobile only version.

A Mobile optimised version of a website is becoming indispensible for website owners going by various statistics that point out that mobile users are increasing drastically all over the world.

  • In the last quarter of 2024, mobile devices (excluding tablets) generated 62.54 percent of global website traffic. Statista

  • As of November 2024, in India, 80.31% of all internet traffic comes from mobile devices while 19.69% comes from desktops. DigitalSilk

  • Compared to desktop web viewing and mobile-optimized websites, mobile apps have higher engagement rates and around 100-300% higher conversion rates.

  • According to Google research, around 53% of mobile users abandon a website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load; meaning, a significant majority of mobile users will leave a site if it doesn't load quickly enough.

While developing a Mobile Website it is kept in mind that mobile user may not be having the leisure of access the site comfortable from his/her home/office computer. They may also be moving while accessing the website. So its contents has to be very specific, having least numbers of graphics and least functionality for ease of browsing while holding the mobile and with single hand and operating it also.

We at Mavenheads Infotech do develop Mobile Websites for our clients who need it and understand the importance of User Experience Design (UXD) and intutive User Interface (UI) for mobile users. User are not happy browsing websites on mobile that takes much time to open up.

TLDs
Hero 1

TLD stands for Top-Level Domain, which is the part of a domain name that comes after the last dot in any complete domain name. For ex, com in mavenheadsinfotech.com is a TLD. TLDs are commonly known as domain extensions. Initially only a handful of TLDs existed. Best example of some early TLDs are:

  • .com - originally meant for (US) commercial organisations.
  • .org - originally meant for Non-profit organizations.
  • .net - originally meant for Internet providers.
  • .info - Information services.

The restriction with these TLDs are no more in place and any person can register domain names with these TLDs. Not only this, over the period of time since usage of internet among general public has increased incredibly, a lot more TLDs have come into existence. These TLDs can be classified as follows:

  • gTLD - called generic "Top-Level-Domains"
    • sTLD - Sponsored Top Level Domain (sTLD).
    • uTLD - Unsponsored Top Level Domains.
  • ccTLD - Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLD).
gTLD

gTLD - Generic Top-Level-Domain: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .name, and .pro are some of the open gTLDs ie, they are open to all, that is to say that any person or organisation can get a domain name registered with any of these gTLDs. At the same time there are some gTLDs that have some restrictions. Only person or organisation who are members of certain organisation / institutions can have domain name registered with these "restricted" gTLDs. Ex. includce - .gov., .int, .mil.

Register Domain Names with any gTLDs with Mavenheads at discount rates and other attractive offers.

sTLD
Hero 1

sTLD - A Sponsored Top Level Domain is a specialized top-level domain that has a sponsor representing a specific community served by the domain. The communities are formed/based on ethnic, geographical, professional, technical or other theme concepts. Some of these so called sTLDs have restrictive use (like .edu, .gov, .mil) while most of them are open to all for registration. Examples are .legal, .hotel, .club, .travel etc...

uTLD
Hero 1

uTLD - An Unsponsored Top Level Domain operates under policies established by the global Internet community directly through the ICANN process. All the gTLDs that are not sponsored ones are uTLDs like .com, .net, .org etc...

ccTLD
Hero 1

ccTLD - TLDs with two letters (.xx) have been established for over 250 countries and external territories and are referred to as country-code Top Level Domain or "ccTLDs". Examples are .in for India, .ca for Canada, .jp for Japan etc... Registrants of .ccTLDs domains must meet the Local Presence Requirements of specific country / territory.

IDNs
Hero 1

IDNs - Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) permit the global community to use a domain name in their native language or script. This is enabled by allowing domain names to have characters from different scripts, beyond the letters (a to z), digits (0 to 9) and hyphen (-). Such domain names could contain letters or characters from non-Latin scripts (for example, Arabic or Chinese or Devanagri).

IDNs variant TLDs (both gTLD & ccTLD) have also started coming into existence.

Examples: IDN ccTLDs are: .भारत (Devanagri/India), .中國 (Traditional Chinese/China)

Examples: IDN gTLDs are: .संगठन (.org in Devanagri), .コム (.com in Japaneese)
